2009 brings many challenges to us as a nation and as individuals, as well as to non-profits such as Woman Have Options. Most of us are feeling less secure economically and are cutting back on spending as well as on giving to charity.
Imagine being a single mom trying to take care of your child on $1200 a month in this economy. Now, imagine that you find out you are pregnant - and the abortion you want is going to cost more than a third of a month’s pay. How could you possibly come up with $400 or $500 to pay for a safe, legal abortion ?
Wages are down. Costs are up. And the most marginalized people in our society are the hardest hit. It has never been harder for women to scrape together money on their own for contraception or abortion. That is why abortion funds across the country are being flooded with calls from women facing desperate situations...situations that many of us can only imagine.
Since 1992, Women Have Options has been a safety net for women who cannot afford contraception or abortion. Last year alone we helped more than 400 Ohio women exercise their right to reproductive choice. It is your support that makes this essential work possible.
